Germany’s cabinet has approved a major strategy for dealing with China – its biggest trading partner, but also a potential geopolitical rival.
After months of delay and debate, this is the German government’s first strategy paper on China. It’s expected to put pressure on German companies to ‘de-risk’ or reduce their dependence on Beijing – without cutting off cooperation.
Recent supply chain interruptions, and potential problems with China’s ambitions over Taiwan, have caused concern among leaders here.
