In Session: Teaching Artists – how to make an impact and generate income
Join us as we discuss how musicians can use their talents to impact others and generate more income. We will dive into ways musicians are using their craft to teach and inspire the next generation, generating substantial income, and the innovative adjustments teaching artists are making in the new digital landscape.
Panelists:
Randy Mason: Husband and dad from the Bronx NYC. Hip Hop and studio arts director at Thrive Collective creating hope and opportunity in and around NYC public schools through the arts and mentoring. Rapper and founder of R.H.Y.M.E Rhymes help young minds excel an educational Hip Hip program that teaches the art of emceeing, equipping youth with mic skills and life skills.
Evelyn Petcher Brandes: Violinist Evelyn Petcher Brandes brings a passion for innovation and community to both her performing and teaching. Her work frequently blurs the line between performance and workshop; she has performed and led workshops all over the US and abroad at venues from international concert halls to community spaces like hospitals, 博物館, and coffee shops. She is a co-founder of Leadlights Ensemble, a community focused string quartet based in Washington Heights, and East Lake Expression Engine, an El Sistema inspired music education program for underprivileged youth in Chattanooga, TN. Evelyn has served as a teaching artist in public schools all over NYC for organizations such as the New York Philharmonic Very Young Composers program, the Bronx Arts Ensemble, the Little Orchestra Society, the Youth Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and LEAP NYC.
Chérie Roe: Ohio farm girl Chérie Roe is both a collaborative pianist and vocal coach here in NYC. She is also on staff at Mannes School for the Performing Arts. Chérie is also the founder of the Whole Musician Blueprint coming out October 2021. She has performed all over the world including Carnegie Hall and has coached for universities, summer festivals, and many major Opera houses in the United States. Chérie holds a graduate diploma in Collaborative Piano from The Juilliard School, as well as a master’s degree in Collaborative Piano from the Cleveland Institute of Music.
