Nearly three months after the invasion of Ukraine, Russia is finally sealing its first major victory as Ukrainian fighters surrender from Mariupol’s last pocket of resistance. Long after the Azov seaport was overtaken, the Ukrainians had kept control of the Azovstal steel mill compound, pinning down an estimated twelve Russian battalions. Now that the fighting is over, Moscow’s focus turns squarely to the eastern Donbas region.
