Based on the surreal, satirical 1962 film of the same name by Luis Buñuel (the original Spanish title is El Ángel Exterminador), the opera made its world premiere at the Salzburg Festival in 2016.

The performance features the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus, Donald Palumbo, Audrey Luna, Amanda Echalaz, Sally Matthews, Sophie Bevan, Alice Coote, Christine Rice, Iestyn Davies, Joseph Kaiser, Frédéric Antoun, David Adam Moore, Rod Gilfry, Kevin Burdette, Christian Van Horn, and John Tomlinson.
