Amour, acide et noixby Daniel Léveillé

According to 52 year old Canadian choreographer Daniel Léveillé skin is the only suit that can truly be worn by the body. And he takes this credo literally. In both “Amour, acide et noix” (2001) and “La pudeur des icebergs” (2004), both of which received fantastic reviews from the international press, his courageous dancers are naked throughout the entire show. Their human fragility and sculptural beauty simultaneously challenge the spectators’ gaze and impose a certain distance to their bodies. They dance with such sparing, directed and at times abrupt movements to Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” preludes from Chopin as well as to Led Zeppelin and Rammstein. Both of these pieces demonstrate Léveillé choreographical purist approach juxtaposed a complex language of signs produced by a body stripped of all accessories.
