Architect’s Design Process : Modern Barn Studio – Material Selections

In this video I walk you through the process of determining the exterior material selection process for the modern Barn Studio project, a small outbuilding which is barn-like on the exterior, modern and minimal on the interior.

I usually begin the process by proposing a solution which is in line with exactly what my client is expecting. I then propose a solutions that’s quite a bit different than what they were expecting and one in between. This ensures we’ve explored all of the relevant options and ultimately leaves the client to choose the one that best suits their needs. I discuss the use of board and batten siding, shingles (on the walls and the roof), as well as metal, glass and how we made the decisions we made.
