“Life is a state of endless becoming. It is vital not to forget where we’ve been, take inventory of all that we currently have, and envision bigger lives for ourselves. This piece serves as an homage to process, rather than outcome. Healing happens when we are able to incorporate the full spectrum of our experiences and integrate our collective selves. Instead of keeping parts of us in the dark, we deserve to live wholly and authentically. I hope you will honor every leg of your journey, knowing life is infinitely unfolding.”

More about the artist
“I was born in 1992, half-Chinese, in a small house in Palo Alto. Growing up, my parents permitted me to draw on the walls, which meant I always linked drawing with freedom. Personal expression was uninhibited and boundless, something to be nourished, not punished.

在 2015, I was sexually assaulted in my hometown. I would spend the next year and a half fighting legal battles inside a courtroom devoid of art, only blank walls and serious tones. I learned misery was being confined to artless places. For four years, I would remain anonymous. Feelings were repressed, the process was dehumanizing, and I emerged with my internal life depleted, my identity muted. But I always knew that as long as I had a pen, I’d be okay. 绘画, to me, is proof that there is a part in each of us that cannot be touched. Drawing demands I take care of myself, because if I don’t, it would be a great disservice to all the creatures inside of me that demand to come out and be seen.

在 2019, I revealed my identity and published my memoir, Know My Name. I write to expose cracks in our criminal justice system. I make art to take up space, to counter the smallness I felt. To inspire playfulness and restoration. Visibility is an act of defiance. Creation is an act of survival. Your identity cannot be owned, destroyed, or overridden, because ultimately, it belongs to you, and you are always changing.”
