Chinese authorities deemed art piece subversive, now it’s been erected in berlin | 德国之声

Artists and activists in Berlin have erected a replica of the iconic Pillar of Shame statue that commemorates the victims of China’s Tiananmen Square massacre.
That’s after Hong Kong police seized the original artwork earlier this month.
For more than two decades, the eight meter high Pillar of Shame stood in Hong Kong, and finally at the University of Hong Kong campus.
But the Chinese territory has since eliminated all commemorations of the massacre. The university dismantled the sculpture in 2021 and stored its pieces on university property.
Hong Kong police said they seized what they called an exhibit on the property, in connection with a subversion case.
