Close economic ties but less dependence on China — Can Germany have it all? | 德国之声

Germany’s cabinet has approved a major strategy for dealing with Chinaits biggest trading partner, but also a potential geopolitical rival.

After months of delay and debate, this is the German government’s first strategy paper on China. It’s expected to put pressure on German companies to ‘de-riskor reduce their dependence on Beijingwithout cutting off cooperation.

Recent supply chain interruptions, and potential problems with China’s ambitions over Taiwan, have caused concern among leaders here.

DW’s China analyst Clifford Coonan takes us through the paper.
