Conserving Della Robbia Sculpture: Clay, Color, and Shine

Two conservators share their perspectives and behind-the-scenes stories of how Della Robbia sculptures are conserved, including some now on view in “Della Robbia: Sculpting with Color in Renaissance Florence.” MFA conservator Abigail Hykin presents an overview of the materials and techniques of glazed terra-cotta sculpture, with a focus on the Della Robbia workshop. Lisa Bruno, Carol Lee Shen Chief Conservator, 布鲁克林博物馆, presents the details of the major conservation treatment of the Brooklyn Museum’s monumental Resurrection of Christ by Giovanni della Robbia.
