Jasper Johns returned to New York from military service in defeated Japan in 1951. There he painted “旗帜”, the first of his flag paintings, 大卫丹尼尔斯谈咏叹调 1954/55. It seems almost absurd that the image of a flag could be the focus of art theoretical considerations for years to come.
