General Luna on the Philippines: An island between paradise and poverty | 记录

The remote Philippine island of General Luna is a refuge for outsiders and dropouts. This documentary portraits three people who left everything behind to live on the small island.

Max Howell: An English surfer who fell in love with the waves of the legendary Cloud 9 surfing area on General Luna and came back several times before he decided to stay for good.
Pirate Pete”: A former professional sailor from Australia who, after living on his boat for 20 年, settled on the island. There he got married and had seven children.
Walter Baskervilles: A former drug addict who turned to god and became a Christian missionary on General Luna.

Back then, General Luna was still unknown to most of the world. This slowly changed as more and more tourists discovered it as a surf spot but also as a relaxing beach holiday destination. 然而, the first impression may be misleading. The island is no perfect paradise, as its inhabitants struggle with poverty, poor health care and addiction.
