Jenifer K Wofford 谈“模式识别””

Jenifer K Wofford is a San Francisco-based artist whose work plays with notions of hybridity, authenticity, and global culture. Wofford was born in San Francisco and raised in Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, 马来西亚, and the Bay Area.

“Pattern Recognitionincorporates cheerful bold colors, graphic patterns, and comic-strip speech bubbles as a way of paying tribute to the intertwined creative legacies of Asia and Asian America. The patterns and motifs reference various craft and design traditions from the Asian Art Museum collection as well as neighboring Asian communities. The speech bubbles name-check various Bay Area figures from Asian American art history. The late 1980s design aesthetic of the mural reflects my interest in the year 1989, an international turning point that comes up often in my work. As someone who lives a short walk away from the museum, I wanted the mural to feel both local and global. My hope is that this mural adds vibrance to the Civic Center area, as well as the neighboring Tenderloin and SoMa districts, by showcasing cultures and histories that reflect and empower the immigrant communities that live here.” — Jenifer K Wofford
