The Kalka-Shimla Railway (Documentary in HD) | Toy Trains – Part I

This route isn’t one that shies away from extremes: the train from Kalka-Shimla weaves up through the Himalayan foothills for 96.5km. Traversing spectacular mountain landscape, the route climbs to over 1.5km above sea level, passing through 103 tunnels, crossing 864 bridges and turning 919 times.

Only the journey time isn’t record-breaking: the Kalka-Shimla’s travel is about six hours long. Neverthelessor perhaps precisely because of itlocals enjoy the journey as much as the tourists who came to discover the north of India.

The Kalka-Shimla Railway was verified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2008.

The Kalka-Shimla Railway, the Kangra-Valley Railway and the Matheran-Hill Railway form a network of narrow gauge railways in India that are lovingly called „toy trains“.
These trains travel on narrow gauges over hundreds of breathtaking bridges in curves and tunnels that slowly meander through the captivating Himalayan countryside.
With beautiful and powerful high-definition imagery (1080磷), renowned ARD filmmaker Peter Weinert takes railway fans and enthusiasts of exciting travel documentaries on a journey into an extraordinary world.
