WATCH: U.S. leading the way in supporting Ukraine, Biden says | 2023 State of the Union
The United States has lead the way in supporting Ukraine against the ongoing war with Russia, President Joe Biden said during his State of the Union address on Tuesday.
Describing the attack on Ukraine as a “murderous assault,” Biden described the invasion as “a test for the ages.”
“Would we stand for the defense of democracy? For such defense matters to us because it keeps peace and prevents open season by would-be aggressors and threatens our prosperity. One year later, we know the answer. Yes, we would. And we did,” Biden said, speaking of the year-long war on Ukraine from Russia.
Biden said the United States united NATO and built a coalition to support Ukraine against Russia.
Biden’s Feb. 7 address comes also comes amid new diplomatic tensions between the U.S. and China over a suspected surveillance balloon that flew last week in U.S. airspace. This is Biden’s second State of the Union address, as his first was a joint address to Congress in April 2021.
Last year, Biden used his address to emphasize themes of bipartisanship and unity. But he now faces a split Congress, with the GOP-led House launching efforts to investigate his family and his administration.
