🇮🇩Indonesia: Fighting Extremism l 101 East

Can Indonesia rehabilitate its militants and prevent future terror attacks?

For the past eight years, Indonesia has suffered a series of bomb attacks that have claimed hundreds of lives.

In a crackdown on radical networks, more than 400 people have been jailed on terrorism charges.

After the 2002 Bali bombings, Indonesia has also implemented de-radicalisation programmes to try and refom militants.

Former hardliners like Noor Huda, who once wanted to turn Indonesia into an Islamic state, now work with authorities to try and convince prisoners to cooperate with police and to renounce violence.

Yet some former prisoners convicted with terrorism have gone back to their old networks.

On this edition of 101 East, we ask if Indonesia can rehabilitate its militants and prevent more attacks.
