本片跟隨十九歲的小趙，一個曾經在山西平遙古城街頭搖旗吶喊「中國加油，中國萬歲」的年輕人，一路從他生長的平遙來到他讀書的四川成都、支教的涼山州彝族自治區等地區，記錄了他從高中到大二這四年間的感情以及思想變化，也藉由小趙的視角見證與呈現了當下中國社會正在經歷的焦灼與躁動。
A Young Patriot explores passionate patriotism in China’s youths born after 1990. It follows 19-year-old Zhao flag-waving, slogan-shouting “patriotic exhibitionist” for 4 years. But as Du Haibin follows Zhao from his teenage years into his adulthood, the young man’s idealism begins to fall away, just as his own failures and frustrations start to mount amid the background of China’s shifting political landscape.
