Adam Lent on Small, Powerful Businesses

How can we create a wealthier, fairer and more stable world? Politicians tell us that we must rely either on big business or big government or both. This is a failure of imagination that keeps the very organisations that delivered the financial crash in charge. Dr Adam Lent, director of the RSA’s Action and Research Centre, will reveal how such views are based on a ‘big consensus’ that exerted a forceful grip on our world throughout the twentieth century.

However, is there hope in the shape of the small revolution that is now underway? Our economy, society, politics and culture are shaped increasingly by small networks and ventures. The prospect of a world where power and resources are shared out much more widely, rather than concentrated in big organisations, is tantalisingly close.

But the revolution is under threat. Business, politicians and moralists are fighting back. This talk will be an impassioned plea for ‘smallists’ everywhere to stand up and be counted.

Adam Lent’s book ‘Small is Powerful: Why the era of big business, big government and big culture is over’ is due for publication in late 2015. You can pre-order a copy here: http://unbound.co.uk/books/small-is-powerful .
