Europe’s first feminist party | “The Feminist – A Swedish Inspiration” Documentary, 2018

She is the founder of Europe’s first feminist party: Gudrun Schyman. In her home country Sweden, everybody has an opinion about her – superhero or villain. She has been through all the ups and downs of politics: a social worker rising to lead the Leftist party to record breaking election results. At the same time, she tries to find a balance between her private and public life, struggling with her roles as a mother, a wife and a politician.

Through it all, Schyman has remained fiercely, unapologetically feminist, constantly working to raise the bar for equality in Sweden and in Europe.

“The Feminist” follows Schyman through her daily life and political breakthroughs. With cameos from supporters Jane Fonda and Pharrell Williams, the film paints a personal as well as political portrait of the woman behind the headlines, as she visits home parties in Sweden’s small towns as well as the corridors of power in Brussels. Everywhere she goes, she inspires fellow feminists to become active and organised.
