How the Chinese spend their holidays – The development of tourism in China (Documentary, 2013)

Thanks to its new-found prosperity, a billion-strong nation is able to go on holiday on a grand scale. This film follows China’s new middle class to Hebei, in one of the most modern ski resorts in the country, to Hong Kong and Macao and to southern China, where they are attracted by heavenly tropical beaches.

Does Chinese travel behaviour differ from that of westerners? How do people relax in the Middle Kingdom? Tourism for growing Chinese demands, such as in the world’s largest casino in Macao, stands in contrast with the shady side of the new wanderlust, such as when the long-established population in impoverished areas are forced to yield to modern hotel complexes.
