As funerals continue for the massacre in Buffalo, New York, the news cycle has already moved on to South Texas, where a teenager shot up an elementary school classroom using an assault rifle legally purchased the day after his 18th birthday. Nineteen children and two teachers were killed. The inaction is playing out with emotional pleas at NBA basketball press conferences, on the floor of the US Senate and in the middle of a press conference by Texas governor Greg Abbott, with the Republican incumbent being interrupted by Democratic rival Beto O’Rourke.
