The Senses: Design Beyond Vision: Active Textile

This video has audio description for people with limited vision. It also contains long segments of silence.

The Self-Assembly Lab at MIT investigates materials that can “sense” and respond to their environment without robotic mechanisms. This Active Textile, created with Designtex and Steelcase for the exhibition, shows how programmable materials can enter our spaces. The perforations could close in response to bright sunlight, or open up on a cloudy day.

On display at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum as part of The Senses: Design Beyond Vision.
