How human activity and corporate interests threaten Indonesia’s rainforests | DW News

Indonesia is expecting its worst dry season since 2019 due in part to the return of the El Niño weather pattern. In Central Kalimantan on the island of Borneo, major fires have already stretched over more than 4,000 hectares already this year. Many of these fires were started by people. Local regulations allow small-scale fires to clear land, but observers say these rules are abused by large corporations.
