How To Tattoo Lines
Want to know how I pull my tattoo lines?
In this video I elaborate on how I personally pull my lines when practicing on silicone practice skin. If you’ve worked on silicone skin you’ll find that it’s not like real skin, but that does not mean that the material isn’t good to practice with. Me personally, I LOVE silicone skins for tattoo practice.
For me personally I wouldn’t feel as confident as I do today if I didn’t practice on silicone skins. They are great for learning needle depth, they are great for practicing new tricks and techniques so you’re not practicing on a real person, and the list can go on.
When working with silicone practice skins we have to approach it in a different manor over what we would on a human. When I pull lines on a silicone skin I like to use my imagination and imagine different layers of the skin. This helps me build that muscle memory on where the dermis is, so I get the ink into the dermis with little to “no trauma”.
I started on practice skin and when I did my first tattoo on a human which was myself, I was more equipped when knowing too deep was too deep. I would not have been able to find that information out had I not had actually practiced on these silicone skins.
Invest into silicone skins, practice and get familiar with where the ink lives. I use my ears and eyes when tattooing, because you can visibly see the lines going in BUT you can also hear the skin break when putting the ink into the dermis. This is also a HUGE help for me to know and listen for that sound, this sound for my style of tattooing is a good indication I will pull very clean, saturated and solid lines.
