Members of the Meitei and Kuki communities are clashing over tribal rights in India’s Manipur, with the conflict escalating into a series of horrific crimes against women.

Outrage swept across the country after video emerged of two women from the minority Kuki tribe being stripped naked by a mob of the majority Meitei tribal group in Manipur. The incident intensified tensions between the two communities – and prompted more women to report such assaults.
