Sit & Set Your Tattoo Stencil

How do you dry your tattoo practice stencils?

In this video I wanted to take the time to explain and elaborate on why it is important at least for me to allow my tattoo stencils to sit for a certain amount of time prior to beginning the tattoo.

Every time I apply a tattoo stencil to the silicone practice skin that I use, I allow the stencil to simply sit on the silicone material for about 24 hours or so.

The reason I apply my tattoo stencil and allow it to set in and bind to the silicone is so upon applying the tattoo I don’t lose the stencil all together. For me losing the stencil is one of the worse case scenarios for any tattoo so we always always always have to be aware of our every move, but we will get to this advanced area later on.

For now we are just trying to get the stencil on the fake skin so we can practice our line work and anything else we would like to work on.

For me when I leave the stencil to sit & set, after I wipe away I am left with a very faint purple stencil that I can still use to complete the tattoo. When my tattoo is complete I have next to no purple showing up in my finished tattoos.

PLEASE NOTE: If you let the tattoo stencil sit too long on this type of silicone skin, we will be left with purple still showing up in our final tattoos which is what we do not want. So I would say allow it to sit & set for 12 hours, wipe a small small part of the edge of the tattoo away and see how much purple you’re left with to work with. If you are comfortable with the opacity of the stencil after wiping you are now good to go! This can be helpful to find the right opacity for you upon applying your tattoo stencils.

In this video I am using a silicone fake skin. If you are interested in these specific practice skins I will go ahead and link you to the product page here

Furthermore this method does NOT apply to the rubber type of practice skin. I will be bringing a full review video on the types of practice skin that I personally use as well as the differences between the rubber and silicone felts.
