Taiwan: Foxconn founder Terry Gou to run for president | DW News

Foxconn founder Terry Gou has announced his candidature for Taiwan’s upcoming presidential election. Gou becomes the fourth candidate to throw his hat in the ring. He made his fortune turning Foxconn into the world’s largest electronics supplier, including for Apple’s iPhones. Foxconn has built huge factories in China and critics allege he has a cosy relationship with the leadership in Beijing. As an independent, Gou is trying to position himself as a candidate who could promote peace between Taiwan and China.
