25 Comforting Phrases That Are Actually HURTFUL

How do you comfort a grieving friend? You might offer some advice to your best friend to give them some perspective. But sometimes, these “comforting” words don’t help and in fact, might hurt them more. If we’re not careful, we might fall into the trap of toxic positivity.

To avoid slipping, here are a few common “comforting” words that are actually harmful, and what you might want to do or say instead.
