How I Shade A Tattoo?

Have you ever asked yourself “Where does the shading go” or “How Do I Shade A Tattoo”?

In this video I walk you through my approach and thought process in which I take to achieve a desired result. This entire video is real time so you can be with me every step of the way upon shading this tattoo.

In this video we will be going over the entire process REAL TIME from start to finish, outlining the design, and where I apply the shading and why.

When I shade a tattoo it has to make sense. What that means is I have to know why I am putting the shading where ever I am putting it and it has to have some sense to it. I found for me personally it is super easy to make the tattoo go flat and lose it’s dimension and or form. This is where sense and practicality come into play for me upon shading. Often times less is more.

PLEASE NOTE: I want to point out that this is not a tutorial on how to properly shade a tattoo, or how to shade, or the correct way to go about shading. This video is sharing my approach and thought process behind shading and why I put the shading where I do. This is not by any means the only way to approach shading, so take what you want and leave what you don’t.

For this tattoo I used my trusty and the new CNC P6 Tattoo Machine along with a Quelle 12-03RL needle cartridge. I prefer to use a 3RL for shading as I can be precise with where I put the ink.
